emmcat is a daily MCAT practice app made by Emmcat Labs LLC ("emmcat," "we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains what information the app collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we keep our data collection small.

The short version: We collect what's needed to run your account and save your study progress. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. You can delete your account and your data from inside the app at any time.

Information we collect

Account information

You can use emmcat as a guest or sign in with Sign in with Apple. As a guest, the app creates an anonymous account identifier that isn't tied to your name or email. If you choose Sign in with Apple, we receive the name and email address you agree to share through Apple (which may be a private relay email Apple generates on your behalf). We never see or store your Apple password.

Study activity

To track your progress and personalize your practice, we store the questions you've answered, whether you got them right or wrong, your daily streak and history, items you've flagged for review, and your reminder preferences. This data is saved on your device and synced to your account so it follows you across sessions.

Aggregate answer statistics

When you answer a question, we add to anonymous, aggregate counts of how everyone has answered that question (for example, the percentage who chose each option). These aggregate counts are not linked to your name or account identity.

Question feedback

If you report a problem with a question, we receive the feedback you write and a reference to that question so we can review and fix it.

Purchases

If you buy a subscription or other purchase, the transaction is handled by Apple. We use RevenueCat to confirm your purchase and unlock the right features. We receive your purchase and subscription status — we do not receive or store your credit card or payment details.

Diagnostic and usage data

We collect basic, limited information about how the app is used and any crashes or errors, so we can keep emmcat stable and improve it. This is used to operate and improve the app, not to identify you personally.

What we do not collect

  • We do not use advertising identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA).
  • We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
  • We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, or microphone.
  • We do not show third-party ads.

How we use your information

  • To create and maintain your account.
  • To save your progress and tailor your practice and review schedule.
  • To send the daily study reminders you choose to turn on.
  • To process and confirm purchases.
  • To improve question quality and fix issues you report.
  • To keep the app secure, working, and reliable.

Notifications

Study reminders are optional and turned off by default. When you enable them, reminders are scheduled locally on your device — we don't operate a push-notification server and we don't collect a push token. You can turn reminders off in the app or in your device settings at any time.

How your information is stored and shared

Your account and study data are stored on your device and in our cloud backend. We share information only with the service providers that make the app work:

  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, notifications, and purchases.
  • Google Firebase — secure storage of your account and study data, and basic diagnostics.
  • RevenueCat — verifying your purchase and subscription status.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own advertising.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account and study data for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account inside the app. Deleting your account removes your account and the study data associated with it. Anonymous aggregate answer statistics, which aren't linked to you, may remain. You can also email us at support@emmcat.app for help with a deletion request.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You can exercise the core of these rights directly in the app by viewing your progress and deleting your account, or by contacting us at support@emmcat.app. We do not sell personal information.

Children's privacy

emmcat is intended for students preparing for the MCAT and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reputable infrastructure and reasonable technical safeguards to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data protected and limit what we collect in the first place.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app or on this page.
